Nomination and Election of Officers:
Judith Nutter nominated Kelly Lord for Chairman; Judie Levin seconded the nomination. Kelly Lord was elected our Chairman
Kelly Lord nominated Chuck Bunnell for Secretary; Don Dwiggins seconded the nomination. Chuck was elected our Secretary
Kelly Lord nominated Steve Patel for Treasurer; Carol Moore seconded the nomination. Steve Patel was elected Treasurer
Kelly Lord nominated Judie Levin for First Vice Chair;Judith Nutter seconded the nomination. Judie Levin was elected First Vice Chair.
Ke ll y Lord nominated Don Dwiggins as Second Vice Chair; Alice Natalie McCain seconded the nomination. Don Dwiggins was elected Second Vice Chair
Neighborhood Council Terms were Determined by Lottery:
For the category of Business Stake Holder: Steve Patel’s term will be for one year;Alice Natalie McCain’s term will be for two years.
For the category of Property Owner Stake Holder: Scott Hayman’s term will be for one year; Lucille Meehan’s term will be for two years
For the category of At-Large Stake Holder: Judie Levin’s term will be for one year; Chuck Bunnell’s term will be for two years; Joe Nam’s term will be for one year; Tom Baker’s term will be for two years; Carol Moore’s term will be for two years; James Gardner’s term will be for two years; Don Dwiggin’s term will be for two years; Kelly Lord’s term will be for two years.
Michael Tou, Policy Deputy to the Honorable Brad Sherman, House of Representatives 27th District, administered the oath of office to the Northridge East Community Council.
Public Comment (three minutes)
Mr. Garrett Biggs for Blair Biggs Campaigns represented Wal Mart in a bid to receive approval for a new retail outlet
Mr. Steve Slutzah represented the Sherwood Forest community owners’ association in expressing a desire for his community to be included as a part of the Northridge East Community Council’s area of oversight Judie Levin encouraged the council to include the Sherwood Forest Community in its area of influence citing the community’s stability and established leadership.
Michael Tou announced Congressman Sherman’s Town Hall Meetings at Reseda High August 20th at Granada Hills High School, and on Sunday, August 21, at Reseda High School. Items to be addressed are education, Social Security, foreign policy and taxes. The event will be from 2:00 until 3:30 P.M
Comments and announcements from the Council
Judie Levin announced that nominations are welcomed for the “Best Of” awards. The deadline for nominations September 1,2005
Don Dwiggins “seconded” the work this fine program
Judie Levin announced that representatives on each neighborhood council meet with City Councilman Greg Smith who presented three ways to expedite sidewalk repairs
1. “50/50” The city and home owner splits the cost of repair. An average repair is $1,300.00
2. The homeowner pays for the labor cost, the city pays for materials and equipment.
Councilman Smith’s office will track complaints through a form that is available on his website.
Tom Baker moved that the Northridge East Neighborhood Council By-laws be amended so the terms of office run from July to July. Alice McCain seconded the motion. The amendment passed.
Items to be Discussed at our Next Meeting
The inclusion of the Sherwood Forest Community intoour council’s sphere of influence.
The proposed Wal-Mart Store. The council decided to join with the Northridge West council in a 7:00 P.M. Meeting August 2, 2005 at Beckford Elementary School to consider the granting of its approval.
At our August 18, 2005 meeting Mr. Lee Ambers will present the “Vincennes Project.”
Our next meeting will be at the fellowship hall of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 7:00 P.M. August 17,2005

Joe Nam announced a Leadership Seminar 10 – Noon July 30, 2005 at the Korean American Senior Citizens Association 18531 Gresham Street Northridge The guest speaker will be Dr. Paul M Kim (retired commander, LAPD) for reservations please call Joe Nam at 882-3456
Judie Levin spoke of DONE’s request that every community council have n emergency preparedness program. Judi spoke to the availability of pedestrian safety signs.
Judith Nutter spoke to the work done at Jiffy Lube. Judi Levin saw to it that a tire was removed, and also that some weeding was one as well as other projected completed to beautify and make our community safer.
The council adjourned at 8:02 P.M.
